III International Research Forum on National Security
On November 3-4, the III International Research Forum “National Security Issues in the Context of Globalization and Integration Processes (Interdisciplinary Aspects)” took place at Russian-Armenian University.
During the opening session, RAU Vice-rector for Science, Prof. Pargev Avetisyan, greeted the guests and participants of the Forum and highlighted that research into the national identity along with state strategy formation are among the most pressing issues nowadays. “Preserving the national identity and values is of strategic importance for any state. During the 20 years of development, we at RAU have established our values, due to which our students have the highest sense of national identity”, he said, adding that the Forum attracted leading researchers in Political Science, Law, International Relations and Economics from Armenia and Russia who specialize on matters of national security and national identity.
This year the Forum embraced a conference on the issues of security and identity, a youth panel on national security and several thematic round-tables.
RAU hosted scholars from the Center for Strategic Studies “Ashkhar”, the Institute of Europe at the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS), the Institute of Philosophy, Sociology and Law at the Armenian National Academy of Sciences (NAS RA), The Center for Euro-Atlantic Studies, Center for Post-Soviet Studies of the Institute of World Economy and International Relations at RAS, as well as representatives of YSU, MSU, RSUH and many others.
S.M. Markedonov, Associate Professor at the Department of Foreign Policy and Area Studies at the Russian State University for the Humanities, expert at the Russian International Affairs Council and the Gorchakov Public Diplomacy Fund, emphasized the relevance of the issue of Nagorno-Karabakh conflict in the context of regional security, “The algorithm of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict resembles a pendulum, negotiations and escalations keep taking turns. There are no dialogue and essential negotiations as such, because it is the negotiation process that is being preserved every time”.
The Forum took place through the support of the State Committee of Science of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Armenia and the Gorchakov Public Diplomacy Fund. The event was confined to the 20th anniversary of Russian-Armenian University.
