The department of Applied Mathematics and Information Technologies

The Department of Applied Mathematics and Information Technologies was established in 1999. We are at the forefront of innovative methods of teaching and our courses have been designed in consultation with leading employers in the region, ensuring students highly relevant experience in their field of study. The acting dean of the Department is an associate professor, PhD – Yegiazaryan Vladimir.

The society demonstrates an increasing dependence on Information Technology, therefore our programs focus on the practical use of information systems to solve business problems and to create business opportunities.

The department presently offers a two-degree system of education: 4 years for Bachelor studies, 2 years for Master studies. The department also offers 3 years of post-graduate studies.

The Department staff is actively engaged in researches in the fields of mathematics, e-government, web information architecture, and applications of problem-based learning in computing and information systems.

The Department of Applied Mathematics and Informatics consists of the Chair of System Programming,   Chair of Mathematics and Mathematical Modeling, Chair of Mathematical Cybernetics.

Our aim is to enable graduates to undertake postgraduate study within the discipline, or to effectively contribute to an organization as a graduate employee in the areas, specified above.

A great attention is paid to teaching the possibility of  modeling problems in Natural Sciences, to the development of skills of constructing algorithms and solving this or that problem on their own. Our graduates showed themselves successfully both in theoretical spheres of mathematics, natural history and in many applied spheres of modern science. They are also involved in such spheres as banking, book-keeping and medicine. During educational process students constantly participate in different competitions and Olympiads on information technologies, web-design, programming, numerical methods of solving tasks in science and technology. The distinguished students can participate in Republican, Russian and international competitions among Universities. Seminars and conferences.

The RAU teams of programming successfully take part in republican, international Olympiads and World Championships among the students of ACM ICPC.

The best students of the department are  awarded with personalized scholarships, such as:

• Scholarship of «INGEOCOM»
• Sholarship of Intergovbank
• Scholarship of Prefecture of CO of Moscow
• Scholarship of  «Armenian society-students of Armenia»

The students of the Department are rewarded the award of the president of Rain in the sphere of Information Technologies (founder- the SYNOPSYS organization).  In 2008 for the first time the Grand- pri of the president of Republic of Armenia  was founded, repeatedly this award was given to the Department of Applied Mathematics and Informatics.

The main direction of scientific researches, formed according to the development in the sphere of high technologies and automation of scientific researches, were announced to be it showed it's shills and master's quality  in modern Armenia, being  approved and  supported by the presidents and governments of Republic of Armenia and Russian Federation.

These are:

• Researches of modeling opportunities of different mechanisms for description of processes in the local and global nets.
• Parallel architectures and parallel programming;
• Mathematical and algorithmic problems in the automatic designing of numeric schemes
• Verification and adjustment of program systems;
• Mathematical problems of informational defense;
• Researches in the sphere of natural science modeling processes;
• Automatisation of computing experiment;
• Discreet mathematics and theory of algorithms;
• Theory of probability and mathematical statistics and its use.

In the scope of the faculty of AMI are organized and operate

• A laboratory of the technologies of automatical identification
• A center of informational security
• A center of distant education
• A laboratory of systemic programming

According to the agreement with the company «Synopsys» there are placed educational- industrial systems of automatical projecting of EDA SYNOPSYS in two computer classes. In 2008 in unison  with the incubator of the enterprises EIF and USAID a Sun MICROSYSTEMS laboratory was founded.

The department  cooperates actively with the High Schools(universities) of the Republic of Armenia as well as with the universities and scientific centers of the Russian Federation.

The further development of the department  contributes to preserve and reinforce  the role of informational-applied science in Armenia.
